Resources |. We test a pair of Beyerdynamics DT 990 Pro open-back headphones to see if they match the claims from the manufacturer that these studio-grade headphones sound transparent, spacious, bassy and powerful and whether the DT 990 Pro headphones hit the mark as reference headphones for mission-critical mixing and mastering workflows.

While the DT 990 Pro is one of the lighter headphones in its class, the Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X weighs over 70 g more and tips the scales at 343 g without a cable. Therefore, it is good that the Pro 900 X is stronger in terms of contact pressure. Otherwise, the fit of these headphones would not be as secure as it proved to be in practice.

If the DT-990 Pro's aren't a good match (even with EQ tinkering) for my music tastes, would the a bit more expensive HD598's be more suited for my particular tastes? I apologize for partially violating rule #1 and for the long-winded nature of my post. TL;DR: DT990 Pro (250 OHm) for soft-rock, indie-pop, yay or nay?
As for sound, 770s are more neutral than the 990s. They have a pretty small soundstage. The 990s have a fun V shaped sound, not as neutral, but it makes for a pretty exciting listening experience, and their soundstage is the best of the 770/880/990 trio. My personal preference is the DT990. As for ohms. I have used my Fiio E11 to drive my DT990 Pro 250-Ohm. So the E17 should provide some good audio quality for your headphone(s).but The E17 offers zero surround sound for gaming and movies, so if you your ok with stereo (2-channel) sound for gaming and movies, then get the E17. Heya, 600 ohm Beyers run fine off most things too. Beyers are very efficient, despite their impedance ratings. It's due to sensitivity. But a lot of questionable information floats around about the different impedance versions of the same headphone regarding Beyer. And not every portable player and laptop has the same level of current rFCy.
