I have compatible apps (Sygic and Rock Scout) on two different phones (S5 and S8). App certs are current and both phones connect OK but I get a blank display. I've spoken to Toyota who refer me to

Yup. Android = Android Auto / Mirrorlink. iPhone = Apple CarPlay. CarPlay works on any iPhone 5 and above (so 5, 5s, 6, 6s, 7, 8, X etc including the Plus models all work) 1. 751.
